Overview
Domestic and Intimate-Partner Violence is a complex and complicated problem that predominantly affects women and children.
Our organisation draws from a deep understanding of the complex realities surrounding domestic violence, rooted in the intricate dynamics and systemic barriers that perpetuate such violence. We use this understanding as the bedrock for our services, programs, and interventions.
In our societies, people form relationships and create families within what we call home, contributing to the fabric of communities. These intimate spaces ideally provide love, care, support, and security. Yet, pervasive power imbalances based on factors like gender, race, age, and sexual orientation often disrupt these ideals. Our societal structure, dominated by a patriarchal order, associates masculinity with power and control, influencing dynamics within intimate relationships and communities. This hierarchy manifests in gender-based violence, affecting both women and children who often suffer silently due to societal norms that keep such violence private.

Despite its prevalence, domestic violence remains underreported and inadequately documented in official statistics, reflecting systemic issues and societal norms that perpetuate gender inequality and unsafe environments. For instance, recent data shows a staggering number of rape incidents occurring within residences, underscoring the prevalence of violence in supposed safe spaces.
To address these challenges, we advocate for gender-transformative education and comprehensive public awareness campaigns, particularly targeting men and boys. This approach aims to dismantle harmful stereotypes and empower individuals to recognize and prevent violence in all its forms. Additionally, our efforts are informed by extensive research, including studies on femicide, which highlight the urgent need for gender-sensitive policies and effective law enforcement practices that prioritize victim safety and accountability.
We recognize that achieving lasting change requires not only addressing personal traumas and societal norms but also removing systemic barriers that hinder the effective implementation of laws and policies designed to protect victims of domestic and intimate partner violence. By engaging with these complexities and advocating for transformative action, we strive to create safer, more equitable environments for women and children in their relationships, homes, and communities.
